The Sony KDF-E50A10 50 inch HDTV is one of the best.
Love it!

We loved this tv at a friends house and knew we wanted it when our old tv died. My concern, even as a long-time customer of Amazon.com, was whether we should order something of this size and price. Best Buy told us they would have it in stock in 2 weeks. So on 4-18 we ordered from Amazon, and even though the projected delivery was 5-16, it arrived only a week later and in excellent condition. The delivery service was prompt and professional. Our final price after shipping, was over $300 LESS than the same model at Best Buy and Sears before shipping and tax. We are very happy with the tv and for anyone concerned about ordering from a website (and we would only order from here), our experience was exceptional.

I have had this TV for about a month now. I'm not gonna reiterate what most of the others have said, but maybe a few things. The TV picture and sound is excellent. The color is out of whack out of the box, but after fixing and tweaking it is quite nice. The cool part is that you can have each input set to their own specifications (up to three different ones for each input).
Now keep in mind, regualar cable (not HD or satelite) will not look so great, just like on ALL Tv's, whether it be plasma or conventional or whatever, because it's not really digital. Now the HD picture is simply amazing, and the same goes for DVD's. I don't have satellite hooked up, but I have seen it on this TV and it looks far better than cable. OS keep that in mind.
You should definitely sit at least 7 feet away to get the best effect from it...I recommend about 8 - 9 feet.
The viewing angle is more than adequate. Sometimes I sit on the ground to play games, and it still looks almost the same as right in the center. And viewing from the sides is just fine, until you go way out.
So overall do not worry about the color, it can be adjusted and the viewing angle is more than efficient. And when it comes to the clarity and such with cable, just remember everything will be HD soon anyways, so this will be a perfect fit!
Overall this is a great TV especially for the price!

I looked at most of the consumer reports best buys and found the Sony to look the best. It was the best not only in picture quality, but in aesthetics also. The price at amazon.com was the best of major suppliers. I could have gone bargain basement, but reviews of other sites were hit and miss. I'm glad I made my purchase with amazon.com.

I purchased this TV along with a Samsung HD-850 up-conversion DVD player. Got everything home and hooked up to the surround sound..Connected the DVD player through the HDMI port and popped in Star Wars Phantom Menace!! After watching a 52 inch CRT projection TV for 10 years, this setup really makes an impression on you!!
After spending a couple of months reading up on the new technologies, I was about sold on DLP...But after seeing different brands, both LCD and DLP, side by side, they both were good yet both had their drawbacks. But when I saw the Sony LCD versus other brands, the Sony stood a head taller than anything else in its price range.
Yes, there is some screendoor effect ocassionally which is why I only gave it 4 stars, but its no worse than the rainbow effect of the DLP's. With DVD's through the HDMI port, the screendoor effect is virtually unnoticeable. And it's so close to HD with newer DVD's it's unreal!!
For the price, this TV is as good as any...I just chose the one that looked the best to me...and in this case, the Sony won hands down!!
The Sony KDF-E50A10 50 inch HDTV is one of the best.

I ordered this TV very recently through Amazon.com and received it a little more than a week later. It was delivered by EGL(Eagle) through Amazon's white glove delivery service. Prior to the actual delivery day, an EGL representative contacted me to schedule delivery to ensure that I would be home. The gentleman who delivered it brought the TV up to my second floor apartment, carefully opened it, and set it on my TV stand. He was courteous and handled the TV with care the whole time. He offered to take all the packaging with him so that I wouldn't have to deal with disposing of it myself, but I chose to keep the box in case something was wrong with the TV and I would have to ship it back. Of course, I could have just refused delivery if I found something wrong first hand, but one cannot really know if the TV is working properly until you set it up completely, turn it on, and then actually watch a program or DVD.

After I connected the TV to a new Sony 5.1 surround home theater-in-a-box and a new Toshiba progressive scan DVD player with HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), my home theater experience began. Before I continue talking about the TV quality itself, I would like to mention an important caveat for potential buyers. This TV has an HDMI socket and so did my new Toshiba DVD player mentioned above. Unfortunately, both are not compatible with each other through the HDMI interface. I spent about $60 USD on the HDMI cable, only to have it not work. I even went back to the store where I bought the cable to replace the cable in case it was defective, but it turns out to be a compatibility problem, not a cable problem because the replacement cable still didn't resolve the issue. And so, I was forced to set everything up using Monster brand Component cables, but don't get me wrong, everything worked perfectly after I installed the Component cables instead of the HDMI. So my advice to anyone reading this that plans to take advantage of the HDMI interface that comes with this TV, make sure you research first if the HDMI component like a DVD player, for example, that you wish to attach to this TV will be 100% compatible. I'm willing to bet that if I buy a Sony brand DVD player with HDMI, everything will work since the TV's brand is Sony. But what disappointed me is that one would think HDMI in one brand is the same as another brand's HDMI. I learned the hard way that this is not the case. Although HDMI is the latest Audio/Video technology and is one level upward above Component, I'm not going to bother buying a Sony DVD player just to take advantage of HDMI. I'm going to wait for a standard to come out first. Companies need to agree on an HDMI standard so that consumers won't be left hanging when they buy HDMI products of different brands.

The very first evening I turned on this TV, I popped in the Star Wars Episode 4 digitally remastered DVD. The picture was spectacular. The video was smooth and clear. If you select Vivid mode in the TV for the picture quality, the colors were truly vivid and this is the mode I keep the TV in. Other modes were Standard and Custom, but for now, Vivid mode is for me until I probably tweak it even further with Custom mode. I will honestly say that this TV delivers highly impressive video quality when coupled with a newer progressive scan DVD player. As I said earlier, I was not able to get the HDMI connection to work due to brand incompatibility, but I was still very impressed with the video quality using Component cables to connect the TV with my new DVD player. I do not recommend attaching older components that use the Composite or even the S-Video interface, because Composite is obsolete in my opinion and you obviously won't be taking full advantage of the TV's highest quality capability which is HDMI and then Component as a close second. But of course, if you can't buy newer components yet after you spent your money on this TV, then by all means, do what pleases you.

After my amazing experience watching Star Wars Episode 4, I proceeded to watch Episodes 5 and 6 because I got addicted to the quality. But Star Wars was digitally remastered. I wanted to watch a brand new DVD of a much newer movie. That's when I bought the new King Kong (2005) movie on DVD. Once again, the TV's video quality was breathtaking and I have zero complaints when it comes to watching DVDs on this new Sony HDTV. This was high definition at its finest.

A few days later, the cableguy installed my new Comcast HD cable box. I originally ordered the cablecard and preferred it because this TV has an included cablecard slot, but once again, there was a compatibility issue. Comcast's cablecard would not work with this TV after the cableguy faithfully tested it. So I was forced to have this big cable box installed. I don't find it a big deal, but that's just me.

Unfortunately, just like any other HDTV currently out there regardless of brand, standard definition looks only fair on an HDTV designed to display high definition/digital quality. On this particular TV, I would rate the picture quality as fair when watching a standard definition broadcast. Hang on though, I was able to watch a couple TV shows that were broadcasted in high definition and the picture quality was excellent then. So unless you're watching a broadcast that is actually in high definition, you probably won't be impressed much with standard definition broadcasts on this TV.

The last thing I would like to review is this TV's built-in TruSurround XT stereo speakers. Although I exclusively use my Sony 5.1 surround home-theater-in-a-box because I want nothing but a complete home theater experience, I wanted to experience the sound that is delivered through the TV's stock speakers. There are two very well hidden speakers located just under the TV screen. I listened to various TV shows and a couple movie DVDs and I feel that the sound quality through the stock speakers was quite good. Of course, a home theater system sounds many times better, but for stock speakers, I was impressed. If you can't afford a 5.1 or greater speaker system yet, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this TV's built-in speakers. The simulated surround is good.

In conclusion, I overall rate this item 4 out of 5 stars only because of certain compatibility problems that I experienced while attempting to connect my new Toshiba DVD player with HDMI and Comcast's cablecard to this TV. As for this TV's HD video/picture and audio quality alone, I rate it 5 stars. I used ConsumerReports.org to help me research a new HDTV. This particular product was a "Consumer Reports Quick Pick for fine quality at a lower price". Before buying this TV through Amazon, I went to my local Best Buy store to check it out. The bottom line, I am not disappointed buying this TV and I'm glad I bought it through Amazon.com.
