Very Happy with this unit.

5 out of 5
Finally, a product that works exactly as advertised. I'm had this unit for several months now and have given it quite a workout and have had no problems whatsoever. It works exactly as if it was a VCR but it records on discs instead of tapes. The audio and video quality is superb -- you won't be disappointed -- there were no unhappy surprises for me with this unit, for once, I can't find anything to complain about.

great low budget dvd recorder

5 out of 5
i purchased mine (the silver one) at best buy for $159.00 with a promo for 10 memorex dvd blanks for free. at this price level they had a cyberhome, this panasonic and a magnavox unit. i know that the panasonic vhs players were work horses and nearly indestructable so i went with it. the cyberhome unit $99.00 only has a 90 day warrantee (even the manufacturer doesn't trust the product) and the magnavox had a lesser rating with nearly the same price tag.
i naturally went with the panasonic and am very pleased with my choice.
best buy only seems to have a few stores with the recorder in stock and they are sold out online.

Very good product.

4 out of 5
Pros:
A very nice prduct for the money.
DVD RAM is very flexible, and the unit can read/write most types of DVDs.
Allows naming or disks and chapters. Has a great feature to save text chunks that you want to frequently re-use.
Comes in black.
Can use DVD-RAM disks that come in a cartridge.
Informative OSD.
Fairly easy to use.
Easy initial set-up.
Cons:
DVD RAM is great, but a little slow on first insert of a blank disk.
The unit can be slow to boot.
Possibly grainy/fuzzy on the CATV passthrough.
No "last" or "skip-back" function on the remote.
Not easy enough for "gramps".
No front-panel clock display when unit is "off".
No front-panel clock display at times depending on OSD settings.
Slow to auto-set time.

Good price, some flaws

3 out of 5
I originally gave this deck two stars. Considering the low price, it deserves three.
Two problems I've had:
DVD-R discs sometimes fail. It seems to prefer DVD+R discs.
Flexible recording puts the audio out of sync with the video (when an actor speaks his voice doesn't quite match his lips). Flexible recording is intended to maximize recording quality. Don't use it. Stick to the standard settings -- one hour, two hours, four hours or six hours per disc.

DO NOT BUY THIS PANASONIC DVD

1 out of 5
I bought this Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-ES10 because Amazon customers said the picture quality was good. Not so! Compared to the TV image direct from cable the image quality from this recorder is flat and grayish. faces show yelowish instead of pinkish without highlights. The manual is written by people who understand the machine but do not have a clue how to write for first time buyers.
